Lucas participates in an acting weekend workshop in which everybody has to pretend to be someone else. Each day, a participant disappears without leaving a trace of its existence and Lucas seems to be the only one noticing it. Would they have a different assignment? Could he also mysteriously disappear?
Lucas asiste a un retiro de actuación en el que cada participante debe fingir ser otra persona sin revelar nunca su verdadera identidad. Cuando uno de los actores desaparece, Lucas parece ser el único que lo nota. Ahí donde la ficción y la realidad se vuelven intercambiables y la mentira vale tanto como la verdad.

Director’s notes
The Invented originated from the desire to create an unusual romantic comedy, out of a simple idea: we are all actors in our daily lives, regardless of how much we have assumed our own attitudes and gestures. Our film walks the limits of fiction within fiction, based on a narrative device that forces the characters to be “others”, leading them to ask the only question that matters: who are you really? The mise-en-scène is well aware of this plot manipulation, and invites the viewers to try to put aside all their potential questions and then surrender completely to the double and specular fiction that the structure lays out.
We are a creative team of three directors who were also in charge of the script and editing stages. We were trained together at the University of Buenos Aires and we have been working this way for almost ten years. Although The Invented is our debut feature within the independent commercial circuit, this experience reaffirms our conviction that at the crossroads of collective work, expressive horizons do not only broaden but also become more fruitful. We are united by the desire to share and continue to reproduce and spread these structures for work, exchange and creation.

Leo, Nicolás and Pablo are three Argentine filmmakers that met while studying Diseño de Imagen y Sonido at the Universidad de Buenos Aires. Las Bestias (2015) was their graduation project. Leo has directed the medium length film BICITOPO (2018) and the web series Los reversos (in pre-production). Nicolás is a film editor for MK2 (France) and the editor of ‘Varda par Agnès (2019) by Agnès Varda. Pablo has graduated in Dramaturgy, and works as an actor and dramaturg.
