At an annual invitation-only party with a racist dress code, guests are dressed as offensive Roma caricatures. As a mosaic of intertwined stories unfolds, this “fun” at the Roma community’s expense spirals out of control, pushing Marie, a young Roma woman working there, to finally take the stage.

Petr's bio

Petr Pylypcuk is a Czech film director and screenwriter from Zatec, North Bohemia. After graduating from secondary school in 2016, he spent two years living in London before being accepted to the Directing Department of FAMU (Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague) in 2018, where he later graduated with a Masters degree. He is currently based in Prague. He has directed several short fiction films and commercials. His work explores the complexities of human nature, often focusing on characters living on the margins of society and within restrictive communities. He writes the screenplays for his films, developing character-driven stories that examine social relationships, personal freedom and the tensions between individuals and their surroundings. His short film Eighth Day (Osmý den, 2023) premiered internationally in the La Cinef competition at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. The film was subsequently nominated for the Czech Lion Award for Best Short Film and was shortlisted for a Student BAFTA Award. Pylypcuk is currently developing his feature debut, Eli and Them, while continuing to work as a director and screenwriter. His miniseries Kamarad for Czech Television is currently in postproduction, set to premiere in 2027.
